The Preppy Trend

Long before my first cardigan the now trendy preppy fashion, was making its debut in the late 1940s and 1950s. It was back then the Ivy League Style of campuses like:Harvard, Princeton and Yale.

Some typical preppy styles also reflect traditional upper class New England leisure activities, such as equestrianism, sailing, hunting, tennis and many more prestigious college sports. The attire all became part of conventional preppy style.  You can easily identify a preppy outfit by sport stripes and colors, equestrian clothing, plaid shirts, field jackets and nautical-themed accessories. This style was long popular with the East Coast upper class, vacationing in Palm Beach or The Hamptons was also mandatory to complete the look.

Some "cultural icons " of preppy style for professional working women include Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and the unforgettable Jacqueline Kennedy. In the last tree decades, newer outfitters such as Ralph Lauren, J.Crew and Tommy Hilfiger really managed to capture the essence of the look and made it mainstream.

All of this to say that this style as made a big come back in the last year and seems to be here to stay. Not only do I love the elegant and sophisticated effect of this style, but it also is composed with very classical piece that you’ll be able to keep for …ever. Examples of preppy attire include argyle and crewneck sweaters, woven leather belts, button down Oxford cloth shirts, pearl necklaces and earrings, gold bangle or large chain bracelets, loafers and not least :boat shoes.

Most of us already have what it takes to put together the loveliest of outfit. It really is comfortable and practical. Trust me, it's the coolest thing out there.  Will you also make your preppy “comeback”?
