Denim on Denim

Denim duo is also known as the style that pairs two or more jeans items. For example, you could take a blouse and mix it with a blazer, a pair of pants, a short or even a skirt in denim. Here’s another trend that’s been trying to make it's way in our daily wear for the past three years. Even if most of us have exactly what it takes to achieve this look in our wardrobe, it is still a fashion forward person move.

Our restraint to fully embrace it is very normal since we probably  have on our mind the horrors of the 80’s and the 90’s (let’s visualise Madonna and Poison). The last decade can still compete in the impossible fashion faux pas competition with the likes of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears at the 2001 MTV Awards.
I can reassure you that this look as evolved in the past years and now is a staple of a very well put together street style. It is also very easy to achieve properly if you follow these five rules:

1— NO belt. It will ruin the carefree and not too studied feeling you are trying to pull off. Let’s keep in mind the styles that have been seen everywhere lately all over Europe.

2— NO cowboy boots (no explanations needed).  A classic pair of nude ballerina flats or your most feminine pair of high heels will do more than just fine.

3— The color contrast is imperative if you want to achieve a flattering look. Go for a darker base (jeans or skirt) and a lighter wash top (blouse or jacket).

4—Keep it light by adding a fun detail like a fabulous handbag, loads of necklaces or bracelets, you can even keep the top button of your blouse open to showcase a delicate lace corsage.

5—Do not forget to roll up your sleeves and to pull up your collar. It adds such an interesting structure and attitude à la Marilyn & James Dean.
